Boston Health Care for the Homeless
Homeless women at a medical respite unit find crocheting and knitting to help with their emotional stress and improve their self esteem. It also affords those who are mothers to be able to give something handmade to their children. Needs: Yarn (non-wool preferred), full skeins or odds and ends, crochet hooks, knitting needles, basic knitting or crocheting magazines or books. Other arts and craft items also welcome—please call first.

Erin's Afghans and Essential Care Packet Project
Erin started this project as a 15-year-old and as part of the 4H Youth in Action club. The purpose is to provide a sewn bag full of essentials to children when they first enter foster care in MA. Needs: Bags (pattern available), other clothing essentials, comfort items such as blankets of soft toys.

Hugs for Homeless Animals, Snuggles Project
Provides knitted blankets (snuggles) for sheltered animals. Online directory to local shelters accepts donations.

The Knitting Connection
Collects yarn and distributes it to volunteers who knit and crochet hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, afghans, baby booties, layette sets, and Christmas stockings to needy children in the area. Needs: yarn, people willing to crochet or knit items, finished handknit or crocheted items for children.
